Bio

Osceola Sentinel 1990 MYRON LEROY COON Myron Leroy Coon, the son of Aaron F. and Margaret McNeal Coon, was born Jan. 23, 1900 in Clarke County. He died at the Decatur County Hospital on Dec. 22, 1990. Mr. Coon married Blanche Grimm on March 26, 1927, at Creston. The couple were the parents of two daughters, Marilyn Louise, who died at birth, and Janice Eilene Irving, who died in October, 1982. They had two foster sons, John and Sidney Braathen, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Coon engaged in farming on the family farm in Doyle Township until he retired in the early 70s and moved to Murray. He suffered a stroke in 1983 and resided more than seven years in nursing homes at Osceola and Leon. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hopeville and was always a strong supporter of the church. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Iris Coon, Alice Burchett and Emma Grimm. Those left to mourn are his wife, Blanche, of the Leon Care Center; son-in-law, Jay Irving of Lorimor; one grandson, Kevin Irving; and a foster daughter-in-law, Elsie Braathen and her children from the state of Michigan, and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held at the Stroud-Lindsey Funeral Home in Afton on Dec. 24, with burial in the Gregg Cemetery.
