Freeland Hewitt Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 25, 1990 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery. OBITUARY: Freeland Hewitt Freeland E. Hewitt, the son of Roy and Sadie (Casteel) Hewitt, was born at Phillips, Nebraska, on September 4, 1907, and passed away at San Leandro, California, on April 20, 1990, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 16 days. He was a native of Phillips, Nebraska, and for the past 53 years, he has resided in San Leandro, California. He was married to Iola Westrip in Iowa on December 23, 1928. Freeland was a liquidation salesman, and was known by his neighborhood as the "Pump Man", as he build many wells in the neighborhood, following in his father's footsteps as a well man. He was a member of the Bay View Castro Valley Masonic Lodge #713, and was a 32nd degree Scotish Rite, beloning to the Aahmes Temple in Oakland, California. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and belonged to the Hebron American Legion Post #180. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Iola of San Leandro, California; 2 sisters, Ardith Yost of Hebron and Elizabeth Chaney of Dallas, Texas; 4 nephews and one niece.
