Bio

SHELBY: Mrs. Rubye Reynolds Terrell, 95, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, formerly of Boiling Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was the wife of the late James Orville (Dean) Terrell and the daughter of the late Robert Mitchell Reynolds and Maude Reeves Reynolds. She was a graduate of Leicester High School and received her B.S. degree from Asheville Normal College. She did graduate work at Appalachian State Teachers College and George Peabody College. She was a charter member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church, where she served as pianist and first president of the Womens Society of Christian Service, which was organized in her home, and later renamed United Methodist Women. She was a member of the administrative council and of the Christian Fellowship Class. She also served as church historian and communion steward. She taught in North Carolina public schools for 24 years eight years in Buncombe County and 16 years at Mooresboro Elementary School, from which she retired in 1960. She has served as an active member of the Gardner-Webb College Womans Club, the Boiling Springs Garden Club, the Philsonian Book Club, North Carolina Retired School Personnel and the Heritage Club of Gardner-Webb College. In 1989 she received special recognition from the United Methodist Women of Boiling Springs for her years of service. She contributed to many church, college and civic organizations, as well as to church and college scholarships. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hugh Reynolds, and a sister, Ruth Lura Reynolds. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Elise Terrell of Sylva; a nephew, Byron Terrell, and a niece, Tamara Terrell, both of Fletcher, and nieces Carol Terrell Church, Genevieve Ann Terrell Gumpertez, and Maudie Jo Terrell Bowman, all of California. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
