KERRVILLE — Ezell Doris Lackey was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Sisterdale, Texas, and passed away Feb. 24, 2009, in Kerrville, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Center Point, Texas, and was a real estate broker for over 50 years. She was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church in Kerrville. She was active in the community, including the Center Point Alliance for Progress and the Center Point Historical Society. Ezell was a well-known artist. She was an avid golfer and loved the Lord, her church, family, friends, her dog Peanut and the Dallas Cowboys. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lackey; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Bierschwale; two brothers, Carl Bierschwale and Byrl Bierschwale; one sister, Reba Nell Bowers; two granddaughters, Larell Powell and Lauren Gerstenberg. She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Claire of San Angelo and Pat Fries of Bandera; her daughters, Tempe Gerstenberg of Camp Verde, Bobby Powell of Center Point and Edna Lackey Crawford and son, Jim Lackey of Center Point; three sons-in-law, Chris Crawford, Guy Powell and Gilbert Gerstenberg; 11 grandchildren, Kim, Cindy, Tammy, Courtney, Justin, Collin, Pete, Bill, Sam, Robert and Marilyn; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by the Rev. Mel Hardin and the Rev. Donald Leavell. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Center Point Alliance for Progress or the Center Point Historical Society.
