Laurel Leader Call 20060110 Elmer Riley Sumrall, 89, of Escatawpa, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Hattiesburg Convalescent Center in Hattiesburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, with burial in Serene Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Matthew W. Flynt, grandson of the deceased, and Ben Carlisle will officiate. He resided in Laurel where he retired from Laurel Machine and Foundry after 20-plus years of employment. He was an active member of Wildwood Baptist Church, serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Upon retirement, he moved to Escatawpa where he joined and was an active member of Escatawpa Baptist Church. He was a Mason for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Ruby Butler Sumrall; parents, Matthew and Nettie Sumrall; a brother, Nelson Sumrall; a sister, Marie Gray; and two infant grandchildren. Suvivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel D. and Dorothy Sumrall; three daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Jimmy Jefcoat, Martha "Pat" Brown and Grace and Joe Flynt; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Grandsons and great-grandsons Terry Aaron, Michael Aaron, Gene Reimert, Don Sumrall, Jason Wilks and Kenny Novak will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, which is in charge of arrangements.
