Earl Hardin Glossup, 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., with the Rev. Marty Hamrick with Polk Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Earl was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Hopkins County to Grover and Rose Glossup. He came to Amarillo in November 1944, and went to work for Borden Milk Co. and retired in 1989. Earl married Opal Hodges on April 11, 1954. He was member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge 1330 and Lubbock Scottish Rite. Earl was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. He was a good neighbor and worked a lot in his yard. Earl took care of his family and other people. He was known for being a family man. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Glossup; two brothers, Archie and Lester; and a sister, Wilma. Survivors include two daughters, Laveta Maxey and husband Douglas of Amarillo and Karen Reading; a stepson, Jimmy Harter of Tahoka; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; and Herrington Assisted Living, 401 S.W. 12th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
