Carter, Wanda My sweet mother, Wanda Carter, 85, went to visit Jesus Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009. She made her passage exactly like she lived, as a peaceful, loving and gracious lady. My mother and her family moved to Lubbock when she was a teenager. She met and married my daddy, Charlie Carter and the two of them built a beautiful life together. Mother moved to Sherman in November 2006. She made many friends including many special ones at the Colbert Boat Club. She loved you all. My mother was a long time member of LakeRidge United Methodist Church in Lubbock. Mother was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruby and Ed Wilkes, her baby brother "Big Ed Wilkes", my father, Charlie Carter and my sister, Janet Lanham. My mom's survivors are myself, June Dougherty and husband, James; son-in-law, Robert Lanham; grandchildren, Wendi Tarver, Aimee Doane, Betsey DeAnda and Brian Lanham; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Doane, Grace Tarver and Lauren DeAnda; brother, George Wilkes and sister, Charlene Pearce. Special mention goes to her best friend of 61 years, Esma Thomas. Thank you for your precious friendship you shared with my mother. I will miss you forever my dear mother. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 6:30 -8 p.m. at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison. Burial will be in Lubbock with a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
