Bio

Samuel H. Howard, pioneer and business man of Valley, died at his home Sunday. Mr. Howard had been in poor health for a number of years, never fully recovering from an operation. He had been critically ill the past three weeks. Mr. Howard was born October 12, 1857, at Jamestown, PA, and at an early age went with his parents to Illinois, and from there he moved to Moravia, IA., where in 1878 he married Miss Margaret Funkhouser, and in 1887 they moved to the vicinity of Waterloo. To them were born two sons, Lewis W. of Valley and Fred L. Howard. In 1915 he married Mrs. Anna Ingram of Valley. He was a member and trustee of the Valley Presbyterian church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Modern Woodmen. Besides his widow and two sons he is survived by two brothers, Pearl and Jasper of Wyoming and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Funkhouser of Moravia, IA., and also by ten grand-children. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the home and were in charge of the Rev. M. S. McAllister of Dillon, Nebr. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Out-of-town folks attending the funeral were Mrs. Hattie Bush, Lyle Bush, Frank, Ada and Florence Dudley of Omaha.
