William use to be my brick wall. According to my Aunt Kathy the story goes that when William was asked about his childhood or where he was from he would tell them that he was from Iowa. That he had an abusive Irish step mother and that's why he stowed away on a wagon train headed west. When he was discovered on the wagon train it was too late for them to turn around and that's how he ended up in TX. Then he'd say that was all he was going to say about that. Supposedly he would never give any more detail then that. I don't know how much of it is true, but that's supposedly why we don't know where he came from or who his parents were. Well that was until about a couple years ago when a John Woolsey saw my posts about William and wrote to me. It turns out I was descended from a William Woolsey who ran away, and John was descended from a Eugene Woolsey whose half brother ran away and no one ever knew where he ended up. Their run away was also named William Woolsey born in Iowa and the same age as my William. After much comparing a notes and further research we have determined that William was the only son of Richard Woolsey and Catherine Beck. It was a second marriage and they split up not long after William was born. At times William even lived with his sisters instead of his mother. Now we understand why he had no love and affection for his parents. We also discovered that he didn't have a Irish step mother, but in fact an Irish mother.
