Bio

Mrs. Agnes Wilde, 83, a pioneer resident of Muenster for 52 years, died at her home here Saturday morning at 4 o'clock following a day's illness. She had attended church services on Christmas Day and appeared in apparent good health. Funeral services, with mass of requiem, were held at Sacred Heart Church Monday morning at 9 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. Frowin Koerdt, officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Nick Miller. Pallbearers were Ray Wilde, Richard Wilde, Barney Wilde, Hugo Wilde, Earl Swingler, and Frank Bergman of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Mrs. Wilde was born in Swarza, Austria, March 31, 1857, and came to the United States with her parents when she was a young girl, settling with them in Humphrey, Nebraska. She married Henry Wilde there and later, in 1888, she and Mr. Wilde and their four children came to Muenster. The colony was in its infancy annd Mrs. Wilde and her family shared part of the old Schmitz barn, with the Sieger brothers, John and Joe, because there were no houses at that time. Mrs. Wilde often recalled those early days, telling of the bad weather and the leaky barn roof that compelled them to live under umbrellas most of their first week here. Mr. Wilde soon purchased the farm east of the city where Ray Klement now resides and lived there for many years. Mr. Wilde died 36 years ago and later Mrs. Wilde moved to town and built the home in which she died. She was the mother of 13 children, six of whom survive. They are John of La Sara, Frank of Hereford, Hubert and Joe of Muenster. Mrs William Bergman of Ardmore, Okla., and Mrs. Herbert McDaniel of Muenster. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Mrs. Wilde was always active and enjoyed doing her own housework. She lived alone. She was particularly fond of reading and kept herself well informed on world happenings. During her early days here she took part with other pioneer citizens in all work connected with the church and community.
