The Hooper Sentinel May 1, 1924 Swaburg Pioneer Answers Death's Call Another of Swaburg's sturdy pioneer settlers has answered the final summons and passed to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Carrie Olson was born in Mora, Dalarne, Sweden, February 11, 1852, and died at her home in Uehling on April 23, 1924 aged 72 years, 2 months and 9 days. When 18 years old she left the homeland, arriving at Omaha in 1870. There she was united in marriage, the following year, to Lars Olson, and together they came to Swaburg to settle upon the homestead just north of the Lutheran church. In 1877 they sold this homestead and removed to the Craig neighborhood where they lived for fourteen years, moving back to Swaburg in 1891, this place being the family home until the death of Mr. Olson in 1916. The struggles and hardships of the early days earned for Mrs. Olson the ease and comforts in which her declining years were spent living with her children and at Uehling. Mourning this devoted mother are one son, Andrew, and two daughters, Mrs. Charles Erickson and Mrs. Andrew Erickson, all of Swaburg. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a sister in Sweden and a brother, Ola Lindquist, of Uehling. Funeral services were held Saturday from the late home and the Congregational church in Uehling, the Rev. J. S. Benson officiating. A quartet composed of Pastor Benson, Harry Stromquist, Miss Margaret Westlin and Miss Luella Sampson sang, and Pastor Benson sang a solo in Swedish. Interment was made in the family lot in the Baptist cemetery in Swaburg. The pallbearers were Andrew Bowman, Tura Bowman, And. Frost, Mats Anderson, Peter Hanson and Frank Peterson.
