Emaline "Emma" McCown was the daughter of Malcom and Mary Cox McCown. Around 1826 she married William Byers Smith, son of William and Sarah Byers Smith. Emma and William had 13 children: Mary (b 1831), Lucinda (b 1833), Permelia (b 1835), Sarah (b 1837), Cynthia (b 1839), John R.
