Harry A. Snowdy (December 30, 1921 - January 23, 2009) Harry Addison Snowdy, 87, of Georgetown, Texas (formerly of Port Lavaca) passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009. Services celebrating Harry's life will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 4:00PM at Christ Lutheran Church, 510 Luther Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. Interment will be held Monday, January 26th at 11:00 AM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery near Killeen. Harry a native Texan, was born December 30, 1921 in Baird, Texas to the late Harry Addison Snowdy, Sr. and Bess Mae Jones Snowdy. As a young boy he was preceded also in death by an infant brother. Harry attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelors in Economics with the class of '43. He was cadet commander of Headquarters Troop of the Horse Cavalry at Texas A&M. After graduation from A&M, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US Army. Harry went on to serve in the last horse cavalry division in the US Army. He served his country honorably during WWII in the combat infantry in Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He received the Bronze Star for his faithful service. Upon returning from the war he continued to service his country as a member of the US Army Reserve, after 32 years of service retiring as full Colonel. Harry began working with his father-in-law in the furniture business in Taylor, Texas. Harry married Elizabeth Schleider on July 12, 1947 in Brenham, Texas. They started their own furniture business, "Snowdy Furniture Company" in Port Lavaca, Texas, which they operated along with other business ventures for over 20 years. Harry was an avid sportsman and active member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Rotary Club in Port Lavaca. Harry leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Snowdy of Georgetown; children, Dr. Harry A. Snowdy, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Augusta, Georgia and Elizabeth S. Hunter and her husband Eugene of Georgetown; grandchildren, Christine Hunter of Kiev, Ukraine, Daniel Hunter of Georgetown, and Shannon Snowdy of Augusta, Georgia.
