Thanks to contributor #47238541; Ora Mae Stark, 100, of North Platte passed away Jan. 20, 2009, at Linden Court. She was born in a sod house on her parents'' homestead June 19, 1908, to Walter H. and Catherine Margaret Heil Duggan in the Dickens vicinity. She attended rural school at Antelope Ridge Country School and graduated from North Platte High School. Ora attended summer school at Kearney State College and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. She taught school before being marrying Max C. Stark on Dec. 15, 1938, in Lexington. The couple farmed in the North Platte area for eight years and in Hayes County from 1950 to 1973. After living in Curtis a few years they moved to Sutherland in 1978. Ora was a member of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Woman''s Association. She enjoyed sewing, fanci-work, gardening and music. Survivors include nieces Lareta K. Duggan of Coeur d''Alene, Idaho, Marlene (Charles) Minshull of Sutherland, Gladys Duggan of Hershey and Mary Duggan of Ogallala; and Jean Stark of North Platte. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Richard Duggan; nieces Ellen Duggan, Iona Wright and Frieda Bigge; and nephews Gerald Duggan, Ken Duggan and Marvin Stark. A memorial has been established to the Sutherland Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Services were Jan. 24 at the Hershey Baptist Church with the Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were with Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.
