Wichita Eagle, Monday, June 16, 1958 Marcus C. Means, Retired Farmer, Dies at Mulvane Marcus C. Means, 90, retired farmer, died Sunday at his home in Mulvane. He was born April 13, 1868, in Ironton, W. Va., and came to Kansas in 1874 with his parents, Lt. and Mrs. Thomas H. Means, who settled in the Seltzer community. His father gave ground for Seltzer Methodist Church and Cemetery. In 1897 Mr. Means moved to a farm five miles northwest of Derby where he resided until 1941, now Meadow Lake Resort. He was a member of Derby Presbyterian Church. He married Emma Shaup Oct. 2, 1895, in her home two miles south of Seltzer. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Bassett, 2022 S. Dellrose; a son, Clyde W., Rt. 2, Derby; a brother, John T., 727 8. Madison; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Downing Mortuary. The Rev. Richard Klein, pastor of Derby Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Marcus Means Memorial Fund, Derby Presbyterian Church.
