TONI GAIL BORRIS passed away on Friday, May 20, 2005, at her home in Castro Valley with family by her side. Toni was born in Lampasas, Texas, on September 21, 1946, daughter of the late Novella Carrigan and Felix Gomez. Toni was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Dr. Robert Borris, who died on March 19 earlier this year. She is survived by her 7 stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, beloved sister, Totsy Beck, brothers, Mikel Gomez, Forrest Gomez, Gary Gomez, and loving step-mother, Jean Gomez. Family was so very important to Toni that it is would be remiss to not mention she is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that loved her dearly. Toni was the second of five children and spent her early childhood moving from home to home whenever her father was reassigned during his years in the U.S. Army. Her mother died suddenly in a car accident when Toni was 8 years old. With three younger siblings, ages 2, 4, and 6, much was required of Toni in their care and upbringing. Toni attended Helms Junior High School followed by Richmond High where she was an active student in the arts. Toni graduated in 1963 with a scholarship to UCLA. When she could no longer afford the living expenses of a full time student, Toni joined the U.S. Army and served from 1966 to 1969. She completed her dental hygiene certification at Chabot College in 1972 and received her Bachelor of Arts at CSUH in 1980. In 1971, Toni married Dr. Robert Borris of Castro Valley, a widower and father of 7 children. Bob was the love of her life and best friend. The two admired each other for their great wit and intelligence. Toni and Bob traveled the world together; they loved their home and took every opportunity to entertain friends and family. They loved crossword puzzles, good food, fine wine, family, and most of all they loved each other. Bob and Toni were very involved with their community and Toni worked several years on the Hayward Zucchini Festival. She was a long standing member of the American Red Cross, Vintage Wives and was instrumental in fundraising for the ARC. Toni was passionate about Drama and enjoyed her time at CSUH and Hayward Little Theater performing in plays as well as directing. Toni will be missed more than words can say. A Wake and celebration of life will be held at the family home to remember both Toni and Bob. Any remembrances in Toni's name may be made to the American Red Cross. Alameda Times-Star 6/24/05.
