Bio

Son of John Wesley Hawkins and Columbia Tennessee Chitwood Hawkins. Bridgeport, Aug. 29 - W. A. Hawkins, 66, Bridgeport funeral director since 1918, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday in a hospital here after an illness of three months. Hawkins, a native of Wise County, had served for 30 years as a deacon at First Baptist Church here and was a member of Bridgeport Masonic Lodge No. 587. He joined the Baptist Church at the age of 17. He married Miss Sarah Jane Thomas, who survives him, at Bridgeport Jan. 3, 1906. Other survivors are a daughter Miss Reba J. Hawkins, Bridgeport; four sons, Paul of Henrietta, Bert of Bridgeport, and Leon and Jack T. Hawkins, both of Jacksboro; his mother Mrs J.W. Hawkins, Chico; a sister, Mrs H.H. Morgan of Drain, Ore.; two brothers, George and Earl Hawkins, both of Chico; and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church here, with Rev. John R. Ferguson officiating. Burial in Eastside Cemetery. Wise County Messenger Thursday, September 7, 1950
