Paralee Head was the daughter of Hezekiah Patton Head and Martha Ellen Wininger. She married Stephen A. Darter, Jr. about 1893. Obituary: Mrs. Stephen A. Darter died at the family residence 12 miles from Church Hill in the late afternoon of Wednesday, September 13. She was in her 60th year. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Head of Scott County, Virginia. Her father and mother and eight of their nine children have passed on into the silent land. One brother, H. H. Head of Appalachia, Virginia, survives her. In 1893 she married to Stephen A. Darter who survives her. She is also survived by one son, Hiram Darter. Another son, Albert, died 16 years ago and his son, Albert, Jr., her only grandson, lives near Church Hill. She had spent her entire married life at the old Darter homestead on which has lived in succession five generations of this same name. They received the grant of the land from the government. Very few families in this county, if any, have such a record. Mrs. Darter professed faith in Christ at the age of 10 years and so had been a Christian and church member for 49 years. She was true to Christ and that made her true in all other relations of life as wife and mother, daughter, and sister, friend and neighbor. She had the confidence of all who knew her. The funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon at Vale Summit School House as Piney Grove Church where her membership was has not been rebuilt. The body was buried in the church grounds. Revs. J. R. Chiles and W. T. Godsey were the officiating ministers. Rogersville Review, September 21, 1933 Contributor: Shelli Steedman (46805729) •
