Mira, LA - Graveside services for William Rutland "Rut" Morriss, 97 who passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at his home in Mira, Louisiana, will be held at Douglassville, Texas Cemetery on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be his nephew, Reverend Tom Griffin of the Second Baptist Church of Houston, Texas and Reverend Emile Rousseau of Hosston United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for a visitation Monday, January 5, 2009 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home, 1107 South Pine Street (Hwy 1) Vivian, Louisiana. Rutland was born June 21, 1911, in Douglasville, Texas, Cass County to A.D. Morriss II and Minnie Lee King. He was the 12th of 13 children, which all preceded him in death. Rutland was a resident of Mira, Louisiana since 1960. He was a retired cattleman and a member of Hosston United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his girls, Pauline McCoy Morriss and also by his second wife, Robbye Hawthorne Morriss. He is survived by his daughters Mary Lee Flash and her husband Jerry of Shreveport, LA, and Elizabeth M. Dominick and her husband Chris of Mira, LA; three grandchildren, Kim Dominick of Baton Rouge, LA, Brad Dominick and his wife DeAnn of Mira, LA and Macy Flash of Shreveport, LA; five great-grandchildren John Toler, Michael and Zach Flash, Grant and David Dominick. The family wishes to give a very special thanks to each of his caregivers, Shelbie Yancey, Jeanie Vance, Carrie Gay and Judy Morris for helping him remain independent, and to remain living in his home. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Alan Borne for all of his care through the years. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, nephews and great-nephews. The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers, to the Douglassville Cemetery Association, Hosston United Methodist Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.
