Hazel Fern Watson Stay (PUDDIN) age 95 died quietly at home Saturday, December 20 with loved ones by her side. Hazel was born February 6, 1913 in Macedonia, Iowa to Homer Mason Watson and Maude Pearl Spann. She was the eldest of 8 children. On July 27, 1935 at age 22, Hazel married Benny Fay Walls. They were married 33 years until his death on February 14, 1968. During their marriage he worked for the railroad and she worked at Kresses department store. She also was a nurses aid at the Colonial Hospital at Ft Smith, Arkansas doing what she loved the most by caring for newborn babies in the nursery. Although she had no children of her own, she was a mother to many. She was also a caregiver to many including her father-in-law. Hazel was very active in her church. She taught young girls and was a prayer warrior with many. She loved to read her Bible and was a devoted wife and homemaker. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and embroidery. She was the happiest when she was visiting with her many friends. She never met a person she did not love. Her actions and kind deeds made her a special person to many. On March 2, 1979 at age 66, Hazel was married to Lawrence Stay in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They were companions for seven years until his death on September 6. 1986. Because of her failing health in 1998, Hazel moved to Las Cruces to live with her loving sister, Ola, who gave her special care and companionship. The two sisters were unseperable. Together they did volunteer work and the Las Cruces Munson Center thrift shop, played dominos together and were members of "The Ladies of Faith" Bible Study class at Calvary Baptist Church. The ladies of the class were very special to her. Hazel will be remembered as a kind and loving Christian woman who walked with God. She was loved by all who cared for her including her caregivers, Loretta, Dora and for the past 10 months Antonio Angel. The family is extremely grateful for the staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice including nurse John Laverta and Rosemary Padilla who attended to her needs and gave her special loving care. Above all, Hazel desired that all would come to know Christ as she knew him. God's spirit was seen in her daily life and she was anxious to be united with Him in Heaven. Hazel is survived by three sisters: Eva Miller of Oxnard, California, Ola Lievsay of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Ara Lee Dalton of Oxnard, California, and three brothers: George Watson of Ocoee, Tennessee, Donald Watson of Maricopa, California, and Raymond Watson of Oxnord, California, many nieces and nephews and many brothers and sisters in Christ from the numerous Churches in which she served. She was preceaded in death by one brother, Robert Watson. A graveside service will be held on Saturday December 27 at 10:00am at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery 5140 W. Picacho with Rev. Chris McRae officiating.
