husband of Obera Davis Brown Printed in the Times Post, Houston, Mississippi dated May 9 1968 Retired Postal Employee Dies Funeral services for John Russell Brown, 74, a retired postal clerk of Vardaman, who died at 12:30 am, Friday, May 3, were conducted from the New Parkersburg Baptist Church at 3 pm, Saturday, May 4, with the Rev. J F Hartley, the Rev. James Henry and the Rev. Milton Long officiating. Interment was in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge. Active pallbearers were: John R Williams, Robert E McGregory, Edward Washington, T J Parks, Jr., Frank Powell, and Victor Bryant. Honorary pallbearers were: Olen Pounds, Palmer Davis, Otha Foster, Paul Neal, John V Martin, Dr. Edmondson, James Perry, Bud Turner, and Mack Holliday. Mr. Brown, a native of Chickasaw county, had spent most of his life in Houlka, and had resided at Vardaman for the past four years. He was born Nov. 9, 1893, the son of J F Brown and Hattie Patterson Brown. He was a member of the New Parkersburg Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Obera Davis Brown of Vardaman; a son, John Andrew Brown of Pontotoc; two daughters, Mrs. C E Blake, Jr., of Ackerman and Mrs. James Farrish of Yazoo City, Miss.; a brother, Featherston Brown of Houlka; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Porter and Mrs. Mattie Brown, both of Houston, and Mrs. Winnie Andrews and Mrs. Rapeal Arnett, both of Oxford, Miss. Six grandchildren also survive.
