Funeral Services Held Friday For William H. Oaks. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Maeser Chapel for William Hyrum Oaks, 73, who died last Monday morning at his home in Maeser after a year's illness. Prayer at the home was offered by Thomas E. Caldwell. At the chapel the first musical selection , a duet, "Whispering Hope," was rendered by Clair C. Hacking and Lucille H. Calder. Invocation was offered by John L. McConkie. Mae L. Jorgensen sang, "In The Garden" and Margaret Caldwell played a violin solo. A. Theodore Johnson was the first speaker. Bishop Alfred Simper of Davis was the next speaker and President Archie Johnson was the concluding speaker. The closing musical number was "Come Come Ye Saints," by a male quartet. Marl E. Hall offered the benediction. Pallbearers were six sons, Dr. L. Weston Oaks, M. E. Oaks, S. Glenn Oaks, D. LeRoy Oaks and Charles Oaks. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery with Mark E. Hall dedicating the grave. Mr. Oaks was born at Daniels Creek in Wasatch County July 22, 1872, a son of Martin David and Abigail Reynolds Oaks. He came to the Ashley Valley when he was seven years old. He married Jannette Bethers at Heber City October 22, 1891 and settled in Maeser. He served as school board trustee in the Maeser district and also after the district was consoladated in the Uintah School District. He was an appraiser of the Uintah National Farm Loan for several years, was president of the Uintah County Farm Bureau, director of the Farmers Mill in Maeser and was one of the organizers of the Maeser water system. He also held numerous other civic and political positions. Mrs. Oaks died in 1921 and he married Nellie Bills in 1939. Survivors include his widow, 13 of his 16 sons and daughters, Dr. L. Weston Oaks, Charles Oaks and Hilda Oaks, Charles Oaks and Hilda Allen, Provo; Martin E. Oaks, Portland, Oregon; Nettie Remington, Wilber T. Oaks, S. Gl;enn Oaks and Nettie Merkley, Vernal; LeRoy Oaks, Ogden; Jessie Beardall, Mapleton, Utah; Eunice Monk, Ogden; Iris Velva Oaks Nielsen, Hyrum and Lynn Oaks with the armed forces; also 29 grandchildren. -Vernal Express, March 28, 1946, transcribed by Rhonda Holton
