Bio

Services for Charles David "C.D." Terry, 86, of Palestine, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Dr. Stephen Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. Mr. Terry died at his home on Sunday morning, Dec. 21, 2008. He was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla. to Charles and Edith Stowell Terry. Charles was a veteran of World War II when he served in the 8th Air Force as a radio operator/gunner on B17. He survived two plane crashes during the course of his 25 missions over Europe. He moved from Tulsa to Houston in 1949 where he began a business. He and his oldest son, David moved the business from Houston to Palestine in 1972. His youngest son, Dick, joined the business in 1979. A part of the business was sold in 1984 at which time he continued in a cabinet business with his son Dick until he retired in 1987. He was a longtime member and regular attendee of Southside Baptist Church. He had been a Rotarian, a lifetime member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society in which he had once served as editor of their newsletter, a life member of the 96th Bomb Group Association, Confederate Air Force associate member and a member of the American Legion. He loved to correspond with friends and relatives about the genealogy of all sides of his family. He was very close to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him greatly. Survivors include his wife Jean Terry; sons, David and wife Nonnette Terry, and Dick and wife Diane Terry; four grandchildren, Deanne and husband John Pierce, Lisa and husband Todd Schmitt, Gina and husband Scott Seebohn, and Jill Terry; and great-grandchildren, Will and Evan Schmitt, and Kyle and Kyra Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult 8 Men's Class at Southside Baptist Church. The family will receive condolences from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 1500 Crockett Rd., Palestine, TX, 75801 or to the Happy Hill Farm Academy/Home, 3846 N. Highway 144, Granbury, TX, 76048.
