COLUMBIA, MS - Mrs. Effie Mae Rankin, age 89 passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008. Mrs. Rankin was born to Alexander Baker and Ella Anne (Bass) Baker on October 29, 1918 in Bassville, MS. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up and attended school as a young girl in Marion County, MS. In the course of time and after a courtship of six weeks, Effie Mae was wed to John Devin Robert Rankin on January 1, 1938 in Marion County. They had a daughter, Joye Lynn and two sons, Johnny C. and Dwayne. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, travelling, crocheting, music and quilting. She was an avid fan of old western movies. She always kept her Bible handy so she could read and study Scripture. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Devin Robert Rankin; parents, Alexander and Ella Baker; her siblings, Alton Willie Baker, Jason C. Baker, Alexander (Ellis), Jr., Tera May (Baker) Tullos and Jewell Lee (Baker) Tidwell. She is survived by a daughter, Joye Lynn (Rankin) Fountain of Wiggins; two grandsons, Feryl Daniel Fountain (wife Mona Clark Fountain) of Perkinston and Randall Louis Fountain (wife Denise Johnson Fountain) of Wiggins; a granddaughter, Candace Joye Fountain of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Johnny C. Rankin (wife Cheryl Luke Rankin) of Savage, MT.; a grandson, Johnny C. Rankin, Jr. (wife Shawna Kurpjeweit Rankin) of Sheridan, WY; and a granddaughter, Brianna Mae (Rankin) Feisthamel of Billings, MT. A son Dwayne Rankin of Scottsboro, AL; a grandson, Dwayne Devin Rankin of Brandon, FL and a granddaughter, Rochelle L. Rankin of Scottsboro, AL. Great-grandchildren Jessey Lorrin Rankin, Shay Bailey Rankin, Matthew Randall Fountain, Ciara Danielle Fountain, Braden Robert Feisthamel and Dillon Louis Fountain; 15 nephews, 14 nieces; dozens of great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services in Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Baxterville, MS. Pall bearers were Rankin nephews and great nephews. Moore Funeral Service of Wiggins was in charge of arrangements. Stone County Enterprise
