Bio

James C. Honea, 85, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Honea was born April 1, 1923, in Clovis, N.M., to Mamie Cecilia and James Cecil Honea. He graduated from Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. He attended Texas A&M University until enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He married Barbara May on May 1, 1948. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends last spring. He owned Triangle Electric Co., a company founded by his father in 1926. He trained many young electricians in the Amarillo area. He served on the Amarillo Board of Electrical Examiners and the Diocesan Building Committee. He helped organize the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1450. He was scoutmaster for Troop 21 at St. Mary's parish and coached many Kids, Inc. softball teams. He was active and interested in all the activities of his children and grandchildren. They will all deeply miss their beloved "Poppy." He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary "Pat" Booker. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; eight children, Jim Honea and Peggy Wilson, Mary and Mark Brewer, Michael and Carlotte Honea, all of Amarillo, Joe and Beth Honea of Los Alamos, N.M., Ray and Margi Honea of Sedona, Ariz., Matt Honea of Eagle Nest, N.M., Barbara and Divid Vilbig of Coppell and Patricia and Rick Boles of Huntington; 15 grandchildren, Megan, Amber, Sean, Wendy, Monica, Jim, Kevin, Jennifer, Tommy, Carrie, Cail, Jackson, Christopher, Pattie and Eddy; and a great-grandson, Alex. The family suggests memorials be to Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center No. 135, 6010 W. Amarillo Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 16, 2008
