Bio
Leonard DeMoss Siefkas, son of Thomas Jessie and Bessie Bernetta (Selsor) was born June 7, 1929, in Clarke County, and passed away on December 9, 2008 at his home in Murray, Iowa at the age of 79 years. He received his education at Doyle #4 Country School and Murray Community School. Leonard married Mary Hess on May 28, 1950, at the Christian Church Parsonage in Murray. Three sons, Tom, Tim, and Ted, blessed this union. Leonard worked in road construction and was a blade operator for Clarke County for many years. He then became County Supervisor for 12 years. He loved his farm and looked forward to the spring when he could hunt for mushrooms. When Leonard was a young boy, he would take his coonhound and go hunting every chance he got, later he enjoyed coyote hunting with his good friend Junior. His favorite sport was baseball; he loved to play the game as well as watching it on television; the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves. He was also a great fan of John Wayne. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sharing it with his grandkids. When they would come and stay, one of the many things they did was to go fishing in his pond and catch catfish. They were his greatest joy. Preceding Leonard in death was his parent, his daughter, Becky Sue, his in-laws, G.A. and Orrella Hess, and his good friend Curtis Eckman. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary of Murray; his sons, Tom (Dorothy) of Murray, Tim (Jana) of Creston, and Ted (Karen) of East Troy, WI; two sisters, Barbara (David) Huston of Lamoni, and Beverly Campione of White, GA; Uncles and Aunts, Paul and Helen Selsor, and Alma Selsor all of Grand River; brothers-in-law, Guy (Louella) Hess of Leon, George Hess of Council Bluffs, Mack (Sharon) Hess of Olgive, MN, and Lenard "Pete" (Nancy) Hess of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Freda Schaff of Murray, Georgia Moore of Des Moines, and Lois Warren of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Terra (Eddie) Brown, Greg Siefkas, Jeremy Shell, Shawn Siefkas, Nicholas Siefkas, Ryan Siefkas, and Allyson Dailey; great-grandchildren, Blake Siefkas, Trayvon Brown, Abbygail Brown, Tayana Brown, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
