Washington Post, The (DC) - October 13, 2001 EDNA MARY (Age 79) On Monday, October 8, 2001 in Clearwater, FL. The Beloved wife of the late Robert L. Herzog (1998); daughter of the late Mary and Clifford DeCoste; mother of Donna J. (John) Surina, Thomas F. Dunbar, Robert J. Herzog, Richard L. Herzog, Theresa M. (Jeffrey) Howdeshell and Roy Clifford Herzog (deceased as an infant); grandmother of Irene McIntosh, Suzanne Reardon, Christopher Howdeshell and Jeremiah Howdeshell; great-grandmother of Fallon and Kevin McIntosh and twins, Sean and Kevin Reardon. Edna was raised in Anacostia and worked for the U.S. Army, Ft. Belvior Print Plant in a civilian capacity. Upon the death of her husband, Herbert M. Dunbar (1955, Arlington Cemetery), she married Robert L. Herzog and spent the first eight years of their 43 year marriage as a U.S. Embassy wife and mother in the Philippine Islands, where she gave birth to four children. Upon returning to Maryland, she worked for the Avon Corporation, Purple Heart, DAV, Value Village and as an aide for the Lincoln Center for the mentally challenged. In 1972, the Herzogs moved to Clearwater, FL, where she worked for UPARC. After graduating in 1977 from St. Petersburg Junior College, Magna Cum Laude, she worked for the State of Florida, HRS. Edna was a two time survivor of Grade IV cancer. She was intelligent, independent and an egalitarian, who believed strongly in the equality of all, regardless of race or creed. Along with her unconditional love of family and friends, she was adamant about the sanctity of life, be it an insect or a dog or cat. She was a devoted Catholic, lived life on her own terms, was much loved, always memorable and will continue to live in the hearts and spirits of all who knew her. Friends may call at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., where services will be held on Monday, October 15 at 11 a.m. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.
