Bio

Lottie Dell Cooper Roberts, 90, formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, September 30, 2006 in Rome, Georgia. Mrs. Roberts was born September 17, 1916 in St. Charles, Louisiana to George Washington and Lottie Estelle (Brannan) Cooper. She was one of ten children and was raised and educated in Brewton, Alabama where she graduated with honors as Valedictorian in 1934 from Brewton High School. Dell married Henry Alvin Roberts on February 28, 1935 in Montgomery, Alabama. They came to Independence in 1943. Mrs. Roberts worked for the Montgomery County Clerk?s Office for several years and later obtained her Master?s degree at Emporia State University. She was the Librarian at the Independence Junior High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, past president of the Presbyterian Women?s Association, Sunday School teacher, life member of the PEO Chapter FP, Independence, Kansas and a founding member of the Three Arts Club. She moved to Rome, Georgia in 2002 to live with her daughter. Mrs. Roberts is survived by her son, Henry Roberts and his wife, Kerstin of Ottawa, Kansas; her daughter, Charlotte Roberts of Rome, Georgia; one sister, Doris Riley of Georgetown, South Carolina; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alvin Roberts; one son, Cooper Roberts; and one grandson, Keith Roberts. Her casket will be closed. Her register book will be available for friends to sign from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2006. Celebration of life services for Lottie Dell Cooper Roberts will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 04, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend John P. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. Casketbearers for Mrs. Roberts will be her grandchildren.
