Captured at Sulphur Branch trestle near Athens, Alabama on 9/25/1864. He was a prisoner at Cahaba Prison Camp. He was placed on the Sultana on 4/24/1865 at Vicksburg. He died on 29 April 1865 at the Adams Hospital of severe scalds that he suffered in the explosion of the Sultana on 4/27/1865. Contributor: Jerry Potter (49630572) Gilford Cannon Morrison was killed when the SS Sultana sank in the Mississippi River near Memphis, Tennessee on April 27, 1865. The official death toll was 1,547.
