Bio

From The Wolbach Messenger, May 16, 1974, transcribed by Linda Berney: Lawrence M. Barnes was born on January 21, 1923 at Central City, Nebraska to Owen and Grace (Johnson) Barnes. He grew up on a farm in the Central City community where he graduated from high school. He was baptized in the Methodist Church and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith after his marriage. He was a member of Our Saviour's since November 1973. On October 9, 1943 he was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Larsen at Palmer, Nebraska. He entered the U. S. Navy in October 1944 and spent 1 1/2 years in overseas service. Following his release from service he worked as a blacksmith and welder and later as a mechanic. His permanent work in lumber trade took him to several places but worked in Northboro, Iowa before coming to Audubon to manage United Building Center 1 1/2 years ago. Mr. Barnes passed away on Sunday May 5, 1974 while fishing with friends west of Audubon. Survivors include his wife Wilma; two daughters, Mrs. Malcom (Laura) Frost, Hyannis, Mass, and Mrs. Gary (Carolyn) Jackson, Shenandoah, Iowa; one son, Darwin at home; three brothers, Lyle of New man Grove, Nebraska, Clifford of Clarks and Donald of Longview, Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Ted (Mildred) McClure of Central City, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Trebilcock, Palmer, Mrs. Hubert (Vera) Giles, Longview, Wash., and Mrs. Lee (Phyllis) Houston, Central City; and four grandchildren.
