Bio

Kenesaw resident George Franklin Nabower, 101, died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Haven Home in Kenesaw. Services were held Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Paul Duffy officiating. Burial was in Kenesaw Cemetery. *** George was born on February 28, 1907, to William and Minnie (Strong) Nabower in Prosser, Neb. George attended school for eight years at Miller School north of Kenesaw and one year at Kenesaw High School. He married Nellie C. Clark on Nov. 17, 1938, in Clay Center. They were blessed with three children. Nellie passed away on Nov. 4, 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-46. He was Carpenter's Mate Third Class. He was in the Pacific on the Philippine Liberation Ship, aboard the USS Lowery. He received the American Area Campaign Award and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Award, all with three stars. He was in the Philippine Islands and Tokyo from October 1944 to October 1945. After he came home he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 1972. George and Nellie resided in Kenesaw until moving to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings in 1981. George moved to Haven Home in Kenesaw in February, 2005. He is survived by two sons, William (Ellen) Nabower of Kenesaw, and James (Terry) Nabower of Holstein; one daughter, Janell (Mark) White of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. George accepted the Lord as his Savior and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Kenesaw. He was a Charter Member of Kenesaw American Legion #268 for 41 years He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie; four brothers; three sisters; and son-in-law,Ervin Mangers, Jr.
