John was born to Tom Henry Lockler, Sr. and Zula Mae Alsobrook John worked as a carpenter for his father before joining the United States Army in May of 1941. Ranking up to a Sgt. Tank Commander, he was assigned to Co. A 750th Tank Battalion, 104th Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. He participated in three major campaigns and completed six months of continuous combat for the Timberwolf Division in Belgium and Germany. At the time of his Honorable Discharge in October of 1945, John's decorations included; American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal and, on June 15 of 1945, he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal. Before his tour in Germany, he met his Love of his Life, Margaret Broyles. They were married August 23, 1943 and made their home in Galena Park. Together, they raised three children; Elaine, Johnny and Judy. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Galena Park. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lockler on November 10, 2007. He is survived by his three children; daughter, Elaine Lewis and her husband, Wayne; son, John Dee Lockler, Jr. and daughter, Judy Johnston and her husband, Steve; five grandchildren, Guy Wayne Lewis, Michael Lewis and wife, Kimberly, Staci Anderson, Kyle Johnston and Deetra Hammett and husband, Chad; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Courtney, Olivia, Ethan, Clayton, Thomas, Hannah and Devon; great-great-grandson, Aedyn.
