William McFaddin served at the siege of Bexar, and later was detailed to guard the wounded and baggage at Harrisburg during the Battle of San Jacinto . William inherited a fourth of his father's headright and began a lifelong practice of buying and selling land. Along with his son William Perry Herring McFaddin, they founded the McFaddin Ranch of Beaumont. During the Civil War, McFaddin was detailed to supply beef cattle for the Confederate Army. He died in 1897, leaving 4,575 acres in his estate and interests in jointly held land. His wife was Rachel Williams, of Jefferson County, Texas, and their children were James Alfred, William Perry Herring, David H, John Andrew, Charles Walter, Eliza Ann, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) McFadden.
