William C. Nansel was born June 29, 1872 at Sweet Home, Missouri, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Nansel. His mother passed away when he was sixteen months old and he made his home with his father and brothers and sisters. When fourteen years of age, he moved with his father to Council Bluffs where they made their home with his brother, Joe Nansel. Later he farmed with his brother, Mike Nansel until 1892 when he came to Platte County. Mr. Nansel came by team and wagon taking three days for the trip. He came to the home of his brother who lived on the Louis Mueller farm five miles north of Monroe. Mr. Nansel worked out for several years and also farmed for himself. He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Wilson on April 19, 1898 at St. John's church in the Postville community. They started farming on the Joe Jaswitz farm in Wattsville and went through many hardships in the early pioneer days. Mr. Nansel had a vivid memory and was able to recall the great blizzard of 1888, the drought year of 1894 and many other interesting events. Mr. and Mrs. Nansel moved to a farm in Okay in 1899 and they also farmed for a time in Postville. In 1904 they purchased a 200 acre farm in Okay where they lived until 1946 when they retired and moved to Genoa. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home n Genoa in 1948. Mr. Nansel was a good neighbor and friend, and he took a prominent part in affairs of his community. He has been in failing health recently and he passed away at the Emergency hospital in Genoa on Monday, December 4, 1950 at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, one daughter who died in infancy and one son who passed away in 1921. He is survived by his wife, nine children, Mrs. Everett Wise of Hayward, California, John Nansel of Monroe, Mrs. Robert Curtis of Monroe, Mike Nansel of Monroe, Mrs. Claude Raymer of Atkinson, Mrs. Ed Thayer of Osmond, Mrs. Ted Galus of Omaha, Mrs. Roy Raymer of Monroe and William Nansel, Jr. of Genoa, one brother, Mike Nansel of Genoa, and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing. Funeral services in charge of the Hasch Mortuary were held at 9 A. M. Thursday, December 7, 1950 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic church in Genoa with the pastor, Rev. Father Joseph Micek, officiating. Pallbearers were all grandsons of the deceased, Richard Curtis, Gerald Curtis, Robert Galus, Donald Raymer, William Raymer and Chas Thayer.
