Married to Mary Joan Walsh 8/1/1956 ∼ Jay J. Peters, 80, of Dalton, Neb., passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, at his home west of Dalton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dalton with Father Dave Rykwalder officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Jay's care and funeral arrangements. Jay Jordan Peters, the son of Julius C. and Minnie (Jahn) Peters, was born on Oct. 3, 1931, near Lorenzo, Neb. He attended the Lorenzo Schools, played basketball and graduated with the class of 1949. Jay attended Colorado State University before being inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps, serving until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1954. Jay returned to the area and was actively involved in farming and ranching. He married Mary Jo Walsh on Aug. 1, 1956, at St. Mary's in Dalton. Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing, stained glass, wood working, gardening, mechanics, lapidary and following his children and grandchildren in their activities. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, served on the Co-op Board and as a 4-H leader. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo of Dalton; his children, Margaret Noonan and husband Robert of Broadwater, Dennis Peters and wife Renee' of Dalton, Karen Peters of Dalton, Diane Horst and husband Maury of Gurley, and Connie Pryde and husband Paul of Tijeras, N.M.; his grandchildren, Bradley Noonan and wife Hayley, Daniel Noonan, Melisa Noonan, Jordan Peters, Justine Peters, Amanda Russell, Deanna Horst, Katherine Pryde and Cutter Pryde; one great-grandson, Logan Noonan; one brother, Jack Peters and wife Cathy of Sidney; one sister, Betty Albert of Champagne, Ill., and many extended family members and friends. Jay was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; Ann Marie, granddaughter, Sara Russell; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Waco Albert.
