Bio

Linda Chappell Alderson was born Dec. 18, 1919 in Snyder, Texas, the youngest of five children. She moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of six months where she lived for eighteen years before enrolling at Texas Technological College. In Dallas Linda graduated from Highland Park High School in 1938. During her high school years she modeled for A. Harris Department Store and for a commercial photographer. She also represented Dallas at various conventions. While she was attending Texas Tech, Linda met and fell in love with Gene Alderson. They married July 14, 1940 and celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary before his death in 1999. Gene and his father, Walter, founded Alderson Cadillac Co. in 1949, and Gene and Linda were involved in the Lubbock community throughout their lives. Linda was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Questers Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday school at various levels. A few of her community affiliations were the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Campfire, P. T. A., Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae and Junior League of Lubbock. She delivered Meals on Wheels weekly for nineteen years and was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, which has a major interest in higher education for women. She was also president of the board of directors of Sherick Home. Linda and Gene were involved with many foreign students attending Texas Tech or local high schools. They maintained lifelong relationships with several of theses students who had lived in their home. She considered Kimie Kaneta Kawaishi, of Itami, Hyogo, Japan and Tehmi Rustomjee Meher-Homji of Sydney, Australia her adopted daughters.
