Services for Clifford Arthur Gallup, 81, of Palestine will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Rick Dees officiating. Private burial will take place at Land of Memory Cemetery. Mr. Gallup died Thursday (Oct. 2, 2008) at Palestine Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Palestine to Arthur James and Agnes Wortham Gallup. He moved with his parents to Pennsylvania at age 3 where he received his elementary and high school education. He graduated from Benton Vocational School, PA, in 1945 and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Frost. In 1948 Mr. Gallup returned to Palestine and enrolled at Jacksonville College. After two years, he entered Baylor University where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1954 with a major in Religion and minor in English. Following graduation he entered the teaching profession in 1954 at Montalba teaching a combined 7th and 8th grade class. When Montalba consolidated with the PISD in 1956, Mr. Gallup moved to the Reagan Junior School and later to Lamar Elementary to take over a newly created 6th grade unit. He taught in the Palestine Independent School District until his retirement. Mr. Gallup was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by wife Syble in December 2005. Mr. Gallup is survived by sons, Keith Gallup and wife Brenda, and Kent Gallup and wife Carla; sister, Eva Kessler; and grandson, Wesley Gallup. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Westwood Baptist Church, 1809 Bassett Rd., Palestine, TX 75803.
