J.D. "Dick" Livingstone, 93, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. Service: 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Grandview. Interment: Grandview Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Clayton Kay-Vaughan Funeral Home in Grandview. J.D. "Dick" Livingstone was born in Grandview. He attended Rock Tank School and then graduated from Grandview High School. He earned his B.S. in 1939 from Texas Wesleyan University, where he played football and was named to the "Little All-American" team in 1939. After graduation he coached in Pampa. He joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor. He was an officer on one of the "Liberty" ships and and was part of the of naval and merchant marine ships that took cargo across the Alantic to supply our troops. In 1948, he became a staff member at TWU. For seven years he managed the college-owned Brantley-Draughon Business School. He moved over to the main campus and for 21 years called on friends of the college and coordinated the college's annual sustentation fund Campaign. Many buildings and scholarships came from his efforts. He retired from TWU in 1977 to the family farm in Grandview. He was named TWU Alumnus of the Year in 1980, and was inducted into the TWU Sports Hall of Fame in 1977. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Grandview. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Grace Livingstone; his parents, James Henry Livingston and Minerva Hall Livingston; brothers, Charlie and LeRoy Livingston; and sisters, Ann Bauldwin and Louella Gaitlin. Survivors: His daughters, Susan Jackson of Bedford and Amy Nichols of Grandview; sons, Jerry Livingstone of Grapevine and Jeff Livingstone of Grandview; seven grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Seymour of Palm Desert, Calif., Nell Wilson of Itasca and Patsy Prestridge of Fort Worth; brother, James Livingston of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
