Thanks to contributor #47226369; Sherman County Times, 7 Apr 1943: August Maschka Rites Friday April 2 August Maschka, a resident of this community for many years, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Jezewski, Tuesday afternoon, March 30, after an illness of six weeks. At the time of his death he was 87 years, 7 months and 23 days of age. Mr. Maschka, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Maschka was born on August 7, 1855 in Poland. In the year 1881 he came to the United States alone and settled in Dayton, Ohio where he found employment with a railroad. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Rose Wesierski, who had migrated to this country a year later. Several years later they came to Nebraska and settled in Sherman county where Mr. Maschka worked as a farm hand until they bought a farm southeast of Ashton where they resided until Mrs. Maschka's death which occurred on August 25, 1932. Since then he has made his home with his children. He leaves to mourn his death seven sons; Frank, Alfonzo, Edmund, and Joseph all of Ashton; Bennett of Lewellan; Alonzo and Ralph of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. Pete Jezewski and Mrs. Joseph P. Maiefski both of Ashton, twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His parents, brothers and sisters all preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Friday morning April 2, at 9:30 in the St. Francis church with Rev. Aloysius Jarzemski officiating. Burial was in the St. Francis cemetery.
