Sheriff of Wharton County, 1905-1914. Note: Death certificate shows him being born in 1865; Gravestone in 1866. ~ KOEHL, ROBERT Robert Koehl is sheriff of Wharton County. Appointed to a vacancy in that office in 1905, his exceptional qualifications for the office made him the logical candidate at the election in 1906 and he was reelected in 1908, so that he is now completing his fifth year of service. He was born in Colorado county, Texas, December 25, 1865. His father was Peter Koehl, who was born in Alsace-Lorraine and emigrated to the United States in 1840. He was a resident for a time at Houston, and then moved to Colorado county, where he was engaged in farming until his death in 1888. The mother was Annie Shear, a native of Schleswig, Germany, who died in 1902. Robert Koehl was reared in Colorado county, attended the country schools, and was then engaged in farming up to 1897, when he moved to El Campo, where he conducted a saloon and later a harness and saddlery business. He sold this business in 1908. He is a Democrat in politics, and a Catholic. He is a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Sons of Herrmann, and of the Texas Sheriffs' Association. In 1903 he married Miss Florence Duffy, a daughter of John Duffy, of Iowa. Mrs. Koehl died June 17, 1907. There are two children, Katherine and Ada.
