Bio

Ike G. "Buck" Slafka, 87, of Marlin, entered into rest on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 13, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Boiko as celebrant. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, at Adams Funeral Home with family visitation before and after the service. Ike was born in Bremond, Texas, to the late John and Mary Felip Slafka. He retired in 1986 after 36 years of service in maintenance with the Highway Dept. He has lived in Marlin since 1954, prior to that living in Louisville, Ky. Mr. Slafka loved fishing, hunting, dancing, and playing dominoes. He was a member of the DAV and the Knights of Columbus. He was veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Pete, Joe, Louis and Marion Slafka. Survivors include wife, Dolores Slafka, of Marlin; son, Mark Slafka, of Austin; daughter, Karen Ford and husband, John, of Houston; grandchildren, Derek Slafka, of New Braunfels, and Haley Ford and Emily Ford, both of Houston; great-granddaughter, Lauren Slafka, of Lorena; sisters, Pauline Cahill, of Bryan, Frances Slafka, JoAnn Warhol, Tillie Kubiak and Helen Talley, all of Bremond.
