Bio

West Sweden is located in McCulloch County approximately seven miles west of Brady, just north of Hwy 87. Rev. Ernest Severin, a Swedish Methodist minister of Austin, instigated the settlement in 1905. The first two to purchase land were John W. Anderson and Felix Lundgren. Other pioneers were August Young, Axel Spong, George Youngdale, A.T. Anderson, Oscar Dahlberg, and John Stoneberg. The first religious service was held in the John Anderson home on March 23, 1907, with the church being organized in April, beginning with Abner Hanson as pastor of the 17 members. In addition to the church, the community eventually had a school, a store, a cotton gin, and a "filling" station. Very few Swedes still live in this rural area. The only remainder of the community is the cemetery located on what was formerly the John Anderson farm. Nettie Carr Cavin Granddaughter of John W. Anderson Great Niece of A.T. Anderson John W.
