Bio
David Clair Black was born in Dakota City, NE to Charles and Ada (Brotherton) Black on May 3, 1924. David joined the Navy in 1942. He served in two theatres before being honorably discharged in 1946. David was united in marriage with Marion Jones on December 5, 1947 in Hardington, NE. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1946 to 1985. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marion Black; his 3 children, Roger Holyer-Black and his wife, Mary, Crossville, TN, Linda Merritt and her husband, Barry, Springfield, IL, Tom Black, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deb Black, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Phyllis Lappe, Grand Saline, TX, Ardyce Mantzel, Plano, TX; and a host of relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Black Jr., seven brothers and one sister.
