"Dick" Jones May 25, 1935  -  November 10, 2025 Dixie "Dick" Eugene Jones entered his heavenly home on Monday, November 10th, at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 15 days. Born on May 25, 1935, in Neola, Iowa, to Sylvester Walter Jones and Lora Ellen (Spellmeyer) Larson, Dick was the eldest of five children. He spent his early years in Neola before the family moved to Council Bluffs, where he built a life filled with love, creativity, and service. Dick is survived by his daughter, Vickie Robin Dennis and her husband Mike, and his son, Ricky Wayne Jones and his wife Kim. He was blessed with six grandchildren—Adam Dennis (TyRel), Aaron Jones (Justice Bendixen), Courtnie Dennis (Derek Newman), Beth Nelsen (Dane), Sydnie Dennis (Kyle Conley), and Nate Jones (Evanne)—and fifteen great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Waits of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Nancy Lenz of Gothenburg, Nebraska. Dick was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bonnie Lou Jones, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage, as well as by his parents, his stepfather Raymond Larson, and his brothers Gary Jones and Kenny Jones. A gifted artist, Dick expressed his creativity through oil, acrylic, and pastel paintings, as well as charcoal and pencil drawings. He was a proud member of the Bellevue Artists Club, and some of his work is displayed at the Council Bluffs Historical Society. Like Bonnie, Dick was shaped by the challenges and resilience of his generation—he valued hard work, family, and true friendship above all else. In August 1955, Dick enlisted in the Iowa National Guard, Infantry Division, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served for seven years as a communications ("ham radio") specialist and instructor, as well as a demolitions expert, before being honorably discharged in May 1962. Dick worked for Bemis Bag Company for 43 years, where he began as an apprentice and later became a pressman and photo engraver before retiring in May of 1997. Dick and Bonnie were longtime members of Broadway Christian Church before attending First Christian Church in Council Bluffs. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow on Monday, November 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with a luncheon immediately following. Interment will take place at the Macedonia, Iowa Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church, Council Bluffs. Dick's life was defined by love—for his family, his faith, his art, and his country. His kindness, humor, and steady spirit will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.
