Gerald Robert Ponec, a devoted servant of God and a pillar of the Cudahy community, was called home on December 11, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 4, 1939, in the very city where he would leave his indelible mark, Gerald lived a life characterized by his loving nature, generosity, and unwavering faith. Gerald, affectionately known by many as simply Gerald, was a man whose roots ran deep in the city of Cudahy, Wisconsin. It was here that he was born to his parents, Jerry and Marie Ponec, and here that he would eventually pass away, surrounded by the love and peace of his hometown. Gerald's journey through life was one marked by dedication to his community and an earnest desire to serve the Lord. Before he was called to his eternal rest, Gerald was preceded in death by his younger brother, Kenneth Ponec, and his older brother, Richard Ponec. His legacy of love and compassion continues through his beloved wife, Lynn Ponec (nee Welter), who stands as a testament to the beautiful life they built together. Gerald's professional life was spent at Magnatech, formerly known as Louis Allis, where he applied himself with the same integrity and commitment that he brought to all aspects of his existence. However, his work extended far beyond his professional endeavors. Gerald answered a higher calling when he became an ordained deacon with the Milwaukee Archdiocese. In this role, he touched countless lives through his ministry and unwavering commitment to his faith. His love for his community was apparent through his political service. Gerald was elected alderman for the city of Cudahy, a position he held with honor and distinction for 12 years. His interest in politics was fueled by a desire to effect positive change and to be a voice for those he represented. Gerald's dedication to his city and its residents was a reflection of his generous spirit and his belief in service above self. Gerald's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. It guided his actions and gave him the strength to lead with compassion, understanding, and kindness. Those who knew Gerald were often inspired by his faith-filled approach to life's challenges and his unwavering trust in God's plan. A man of many interests, Gerald found joy in the intersection of politics and religion, recognizing the importance of both in shaping a just and loving society. His contributions to both spheres were not only significant but also reflective of his deep conviction that one's faith should be lived out in service to others. In remembering Gerald Robert Ponec, we celebrate a life that was truly loving, generous, and faith-filled. He was a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched, and his memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Gerald's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but the love he shared and the good he accomplished will resonate for generations to come.
