The Columbus Telegram (Columbus, Nebr.), November 15, 1918, p. 10, col. 4 & 5 Death of Steve Janielski Steve Panielski [sic], seventeen years old, a son of Mrs. Joe Lassek, by a former marriage, died Wednesday evening at 6:30 at the home of A. Kialbasa, living six miles west of Clarks, from the effects of Spanish influenza that developed into pneumonia. He took sick with influenza a week ago last Monday, but considered himself sufficiently recovered to go picking corn. He took a relapse and tried to get home last Monday. Failing to make the train he returned to Mrs. Kialbasa's and gradually grew worse. Dr. F. B. Cyphers was summoned Wednesday afternoon. His mother and sisters, Mary and Helen, were at his bedside when the end came. They accompanied the body to Duncan Thursday noon, going out to the Lassek home nine miles northwest of Duncan. The funeral services will be held at St. Stanislaus church Friday morning at 9:30, conducted by Father Flavius. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. His mother, two sisters and a brother, Andrew, and four half sisters and three half brothers, all at home, survive him.
