Bio
Garnetta M. Shively, 95, of Clarks, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton, with Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bureau Cemetery (Pierce Chapel) near Clarks. Garnetta was born on November 6, 1930, on the family farm west of Fullerton to Thomas and Clara (Porter) Rech. She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1948. After high school, she worked at the dime store in Fullerton before moving to Lincoln for a few years. She was united in marriage to Virgil Shively on February 11, 1953, at First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton, and the couple made their home southeast of Fullerton. Garnetta worked in Dr. Seburg's office in Fullerton for ten years and later at the nursing home in Fullerton for 23 years. They remained on the farm until 2024, when they moved into Fullerton. Garnetta loved raising chickens and at one point cared for nearly 300 of them at once. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, patchwork, and sewing blankets. Well known for her pies, she baked for the Loup River Inn for nearly 15 years. She cherished outings with her family to Pizza Ranch. She is survived by her husband, Virgil; sons, Gene (Charlene) Shively of St. Edward, Gerald Shively of Fullerton, and Carl (Kayln) Shively of Clarks; four grandchildren, Travis, Anthony, Chelsey, and Calvin; 10 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Mardelle Doremus, Kathy Sherman, Dale Patchen, and Richard Rech Jr.; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Chantel Shively; daughters-in-law, Kim Shively, Audra Shively, and Charlene Parmenter; brother, Richard Rech; father and mother-in-law, and stepbrothers and sisters, Carl Witzel, Leona Witzel, Laura Patchen, Ella Allen, Florence Peck, Evelyn Buckley, Irene Sherman, and Margaret Peck.
