Bio

Georgia Virginia Pavelka Zidek, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 15, 1932, in Violet, Texas, to John Pavelka and Lillian Sumbera Pavelka, Georgia lived a life filled with faith, family, music, and the rich traditions of her Czech heritage. Growing up on a cotton farm, Georgia was proud of her Czech roots, which she joyfully shared with others through her love of family, friendships, and polka music. At a young age, she was called upon along with her brothers to play in her family's polka band. She was requested to play drums. Raised in a faith-filled home, Georgia's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She cherished time spent raising her family, sewing, baking, cooking, reading, bowling, and fishing at the coast. Her adventurous spirit led her to many travels with her loving husband and family as the family was growing, and she enjoyed the thrill of a good game of chance (gambling) with her husband in Las Vegas and casinos in her retirement years. Georgia was deeply involved in her community, participating in a variety of clubs and organizations alongside her beloved husband, Alvin Zidek. Together, they were active members of the SPJST, Polka Lovers Club of Texas, and the San Antonio Chapter of the Czech Choral Club. They enjoyed attending polka dances all across south central Texas and even in the U.S. midwest. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Pavelka; her cherished husband, Alvin Zidek; her precious grandchildren, Jonathan Zidek and Olivia Zidek; her siblings, George Pavelka, Bill Pavelka, Jerome "PeeWee" Pavelka, Benjamin "Benny" Pavelka, Robert "Bob" Pavelka, and an infant sister. She leaves behind a devoted family to cherish her memory — her children, Alan Zidek (Vickie), Nancy Lyssy (Melvin), John Zidek (Lynda Ragan), and Lisa Vyvlecka (Brady); grandchildren Natalie, Michael, Steven (Tressa), Anthony (Shelby), Scott (Teree), Matthew (Kayleigh), Emily (Gabe), Collin, and Faith; great-grandchildren Georgia, Lillian, McKinley, Wells, Ian, and Eli; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. A visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 9 a.m. in Vinyard Funeral Home in Floresville. A rosary will begin at 10 a.m. and a funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael Lyssy, Steven Lyssy, Anthony Lyssy, Scott Lyssy, Matthew Zidek, Collin Vyvlecka, and Gabe Meza. Georgia's legacy of love, kindness, and vibrant celebration of her heritage will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Memorial donations to the donor's charity of choice may be made in lieu of flowers
