Bio

JOHN J. "JACK" BURLESON. Son of John B. Burleson and Penelope Jane Williams of Crow's Nest/Harriet, Tom Green County, Tx. Jack spent his teen and early 20 years as a cowboy/rancher just west of Odessa, Texas. He worked cattle on the Dawson Ranch, before buying his own spread near the Ector/Winkler County line. Jack's first wife was Goldie McCullough, their children were: James David Burleson, Leo Ernest Burleson, and Lula Maud Burleson Short. By the 1920s, Jack moved his family to Dallas, Texas, where he obtained work in the grain mills there. Jack married second Lela Ethel Corder Lyon. He raised her children as his own. They were, Erma Irene Lyon, James Cleveland Lyon, Charles William Lyon, and Robert Ray Lyon. They all survived the great depression and many tribulations with Jack's strength. Over the many years Jack and Lela lived in Dallas, Rylie, Lisbon, and later near Zip City, Texas where they bought a small plot of farm land that was called the "Lucky Penny Ranch" on which they raised and sold birds and fowl of every kind. Eventually they raised Pekinese dogs as a business until they retired. Jack was a very tough, hard working man, with exceptional physical strength even into his 80s. His high morals and work ethics set a good example for anyone to follow.
