She was born on May 7, 1924, the only child of Elo Girndt and Edna (Slovak) Girndt in Columbus, Texas. Gladys graduated from Columbus High School in 1941 and was a majorette in the school band. Despite her ladylike demeanor she was an accomplished hunter, and avid angler fishing the Gulf for redfish and trout no matter the weather. For many years Gladys was a dedicated homemaker caring for her two sons. She volunteered at the Eagle Lake Hospital, was a charter member of Catholic Daugh- ters and participated in community events. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Nada, Texas. Her faith was central throughout her life and she drew strength during difficult times from her strong catholic beliefs. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Elo and Edna Girndt; first husband, Carl Schiurring; son David Schiurring; and second husband Marvin Tyler. Gladys is survived by her son, Stephen Schiurring and wife Terry of San Marcos; daughter-in-law Betty Gold (Schiurring); grandchildren Stacy Schiurring-Klein (Kevin), Chriss Schiurring, Cynthia Hatt (George) and Gregory Schiurring; and great-grandchildren Sophie and Sawyer Schiurring, Zoey and Everett Klein, and Hadrian Hatt.
